"Do what you love, love what you do."
Allen Newell
Every year we come together.
Allen Newell (TPR’57), Herbert A. Simon (H’90) and Alan Perlis (S’42) are considered the founders of Computer Science at Carnegie Mellon University. We honor their legacies in the education and research we conduct at the School of Computer Science.
Since 2012, Founders Day is a special day to honor those faculty and staff members who through their work best exemplify the ideals made so important to us by Newell, Simon and Perlis. At SCS Founders Day, we present the Allen Newell Award for Research Excellence, the Herbert A. Simon Award for Teaching Excellence in Computer Science, the Alan J. Perlis Award for Imagination in Computer Science, and staff recognition awards. We also celebrate and pay tribute to faculty and staff who have been recognized for their work and contributions beyond SCS.
This special day is a time for us to come together as a community and reflect on our achievements and the future ahead for the School of Computer Science.
The 11th Annual Founders Day event was held on Tuesday, April 5, 2022 in Rashid Auditorium, find out who won and watch the event video under current recipients.
